When a woman experiences the fragrance of roses from a bunch of
roses in her hand; it is a normal experience through one of the five senses,
smelling. However, when a woman experiences the fragrance of sandalwood without
the apparent presence of sandalwood; it is through her sixth sense.
A Synopsis on Sixth Sense
Sixth sense refers to the subtle perception ability to perceive
subtle-dimension of the unseen world such as heavens, angels, or ghosts. The
power to understand, feel, and perceive things and happenings that are beyond
the intellect’s comprehending ability is the sixth sense. Intuition,
premonition, clairvoyance, and extra-sensory perception are some of the
synonyms of sixth sense. The things not comprehendible by the five senses to
smell, touch, taste, sight, and sound are perceived and felt by the sixth sense.
On the sixth sense being activated by regular practice, one can feel and
perceive the unseen world through five subtle-senses, subtle intellect, and
subtle mind, and all these can be collectively referred as the sixth sense.
The world is made of Panchtatvas (Five Absolute Cosmic
Principles) comprising Prithvi (earth), Jal (water), Pavak (Fire), Gagan
(Aakash), and Samira (Air). However, these Panchtatvas cannot be seen by naked
eyes, but can be experienced by an activated sixth sense progressively from the
gross to the subtle. These experiences through the sixth sense are also
referred as spiritual experiences, and may be negative or positive.
Experiencing the fragrance of sandalwood without the physical presence of sandalwood
is a positive spiritual experience; whereas experiencing the smell of urine in
and around a house without apparent cause is negative spiritual experience.
Similarly, taste of sweetness, vision of a deity, feeing of hand on head, or
hearing the sound of a conch are the examples of positive spiritual
experiences. At the same time, bitter taste in the mouth, seeing a ghost,
imagining assault by demons, or hearing strange voices are negative spiritual
experiences.
How to Develop Sixth Sense
In order to develop the sixth sense, one has to do spiritual
practices regularly. Consistent spiritual practices are necessary to perceive
and experience the subtle world to a great extent. As one’s spiritual
attainment goes on increasing, he is progressively able to perceive the subtle
world through his subtle perception ability or the sixth sense. Females are
considered to have stronger sixth sense than men as men are more intuitive.
Also, men tend to be rational and scientific. People receiving knowledge
through subtle dimension do so either automatically owing to their ability to
utilize the sixth sense or as answers to the questions asked to subtle
entities. In both cases, the person receiving knowledge does so through his
sixth sense. The knowledge could belong to the lower regions such as the hell
region, and may get information about the time of marriage, or win or defeat
for a political party. On the other hand, the knowledge of higher order comes
through higher region such as Mahrlok or beyond heaven. These kinds of
knowledge were gained by ancient sages of India. When the knowledge gained by a
person is completely alien to him, he must have received it through his sixth
sense. Thus, sixth sense is something beyond this known world.
